The new Yearling course will sit alongside the two stellar championship 18-hole layouts at the venue, which are the world’s only Lee Westwood golf courses.
Owner Graham Wylie aptly announced the addition while yesterday caddying for Close House attached Tour professional Westwood at the annual par-3 competition at Augusta National Golf Club.
While the north-east venue already boasts two 18-hole courses and a PGA academy, the new Yearling course will provide those with time constraints a quicker way to experience golf at Close House.
The par 27 layout will provide the perfect transition between the academy and the 18-hole courses, with shorter holes taking away the pressure and intimidation of a full length course for juniors and beginners.
“The addition of the Yearling course will prove a real asset to us here, and will be an environment in which those new to the game can learn the rules and etiquette of golf”, said Wylie.
“It will present an enjoyable way for juniors to experience every element of the game, whilst more accomplished players will find it a great way to fine tune their wedge game.
“It’s a nice touch that the opening of the Yearling course coincides with the playing of the most famous Par-3 tournament at Augusta National as part of this year’s Masters Tournament.”
The Yearling, which will only be available to members, guests and residents, will feature hand-cut greens maintained to the same standard as both the Colt and Filly courses, along with a variety of challenging holes ranging from 35 to 70 yards.
